Upholding the Dignity of the Individual



The UP Sigma Alpha Sorority sets itself apart from other Greek-lettered organizations in the University of the Philippines by living out its conviction of upholding the dignity of the individual and not subjecting its neophytes to physical initiation. Founded in 1964 by 19 ladies seeking a sorority like no other, the sorority provides young women at UP a sisterhood beyond socials and fun, one that encourages its members not only to excel academically and be socially responsible, but to develop themselves to their full potential.

The Sigma Alpha Sorority invites all its members to join in the celebration of its 45th (Sapphire) Anniversary on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 6:30 pm at the Savannah Moon, Corby Bldg., E. Rodriguez Blvd., Libis, Quezon City.

Plaque of Recognition

One of the highlights of the Anniversary Celebration is the awarding of a Plaque of Recognition to Sis Teresita Leonardo-de Castro, an Associate Justice of the Philippine Supreme Court. Last June 20, 2009, the University of the Philippines Alumni Association presented the Distinguished Alumni Award to Hon. de Castro for Championing Justice in the Judiciary.

Book Launching

The book The Sigma Alpha Sorority: 45 Years and Beyond is a compilation of essays written by the Sigma Alphans mostly on their experiences and memories about their days at UP and the sorority. To be launched during the 45th anniversary celebration, the book may be considered a lasting memento of youthful experiences and a testament to the lasting bonds forged within the sorority. Included in the book are articles from brods at the Alpha Sigma Fraternity whose shared experiences with sorority sisters indelibly changed their lives.
